Owl workshop

September 25, 2020 @ 8:00 am - September 27, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

Enjoy a full day’s Foto-Buzz workshop in August photographing a large variety of stunning birds-of-prey at a picturesque rural location that is NOT open to the general public. Our Foto-Buzz group will be the only people on the site for the entire session and this means you will get the chance to photograph the birds both perched and flying in lovely natural countryside with great backgrounds. Our workshop is strictly limited to eight people to ensure all those taking part have a great opportunity to take some superb photos, with the help of Andrew James and Jon Adams who are both attending the day as tutors.

No penguins need apply

The collection of birds of prey you can photograph includes Red-tailed Buzzards, Bengal Eagle Owl, Harris hawk, Eurasian Eagle Owl, African Spotted Eagle Owl, Barn Owl, Peregrine Falcon, Tawny Eagle, Great Grey Owl, Brown Wood Owl and Burrowing Owl. There won’t really be any penguins on this workshop, I feel I should be upfront about the lack of penguins.

Which specific species will be photographed on the day will depend on weather conditions and the temperament of an individual bird to conditions. For this reason we have to remain flexible on subject choice and in all circumstances the welfare of the birds come first, just as you would expect. All the birds-of-prey in this private collection are in superb condition and you’ll be able to learn a lot about them all from our experienced falconer, also called Andrew, who is pictured below. A great deal of care will be taken to ensure the birds and the environment they are in look as natural as possible. AJ helped to choose and erect the perches two years ago and they are all strategically placed to make the most of the light and environment.

As well as advice and suggestions on camera techniques to try for both portraits and action shots, you can also get additional help on how to shoot some excellent video of the birds with your DSLR. Mainly though, this is a still photography day and you will get a variety of interesting and creative shots from the session.

The day is scheduled for 10am and finishes at 4pm but we may change this depending on summer conditions. Tea and coffee will be available but lunch is not included so please bring a packed lunch and we will have a break in the day for you to eat this. The venue for the course is a rural location near Market Harborough, Leicestershire. There is plenty of parking at the site and details on how to find it will be provided.

Please select a ticket below. You may purchase more than one.
